Prince William County, Virginia, has continued to experience a surge in growth in our experienced senior population and has led to an increase in demand for specialized transportation services for wheelchair and stretcher transportation. This growing demand continues to be realized in area hospitals, emergency rooms, and skilled nursing facilities where increasing costs for extended stays for lack of prompt transportation solutions is very problematic.
According to "World Population Review," Prince William County's population has reached approximately 492,268 residents with a senior population of approximately 11%. While this percentage is lower than the national average of 16.8%, the county has seen a notable increase in its elderly demographic.
Between 2010 and 2030, the United States' population over 65 is projected to grow by 49%. In Northern Virginia, which includes Prince William County, this age group is expected to grow by 76% during the same period. This rapid growth underscores the need for enhanced services and infrastructure to support the aging population.
The increasing senior population has led to a heightened demand for specialized transportation services due to mobility challenges and health related conditions. Access to senior wheelchair transportation is crucial for seniors needing to be discharged from hospitals, emergency rooms, and skilled care facilities as well as the need to attend routine medical appointments, social engagements, and essential errands.
ISG Transport plays a pivotal role in supporting seniors' independence and quality of life by offering direct personal assisted transportation. Further, ISG Transport is committed to catering to the direct needs of our senior population that does not qualify for Medicaid benefits. Those qualifying for Medicaid services receive free ambulatory, wheelchair, and stretcher transportation, but for those seniors not qualifying for Medicaid and having to pay out-of-pocket for assisted transportation face challenges in finding accessible, affordable, and timely specialized transportation.
Although the exact percentage of seniors on government assistance versus those not receiving such benefits in Prince William County is not readily available, addressing the growing transportation needs of seniors, particularly those requiring wheelchair and stretcher transportation and those not qualifying for Medicaid, necessitates the need for ISG Transport.
ISG Transport continues to collaborate and partner with area hospitals, emergency rooms, and nursing facilities to increase accessibility while also working with various local agencies to strategies and raise awareness for increased support services.
ISG Transport is working to meet the growing demand of our seniors, hospitals, and area facilities.
